Pistons' Knight misses second straight game with knee injury

AUBURN HILLS — Pistons guard Brandon Knight missed his second straight game Saturday with a hyper-extended right knee. Knight had an MRI done, but it came back negative.

“Little swelling you can see it,” Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said. “He can’t really jump off of it. He doesn’t have total confidence in it. The MRI was more for precautionary reasons. It didn’t show anything other than what we already diagnoised it with. He’ll be day-to-day. He’ll be taking some medication and just kind of see how he does in terms of trying to get the swelling down.”

Knight is averaging 13.6 points, 4.3 assists and 3.4 rebounds this season.

Friday marked the first game Knight missed in his two seasons with Detroit. The second-year guard is known as a hard worker, but it remains unclear when he will return.

“He was in the facility all day (Saturday), treatment and shooting some shots, see how it feels,” Frank said. “They’ll give him whatever medications they give, whatever treatment and rehab. Until he’s cleared, he obviously won’t be doing anything.”

Bynum whistled for rare techincal foul

Pistons guard Will Bynum was whistled for a rare technical during Tuesday's loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Bynum's technical was the third called by official David Guthrie in a two-minute span in the second quarter. The first two were on Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins and Grizzlies player Quincy Pondexter.

Bynum couldn't recall the last time he got a technical foul and was surprised he picked one up Tuesday.

"All I said was, ‘He hit my hand,’ " Bynum said. "That’s all I said. I don’t even say nothing. I want my $2,000 in my pocket. I need every dime I can get man. I’ve never got a technical, I don’t think. It’s different man."

The NBA fines players $2,000 for each technical foul. Tuesday's technical was not Bynum's first, but it was just the fourth of his career. Bynum had one during the 2010-11 season and two during the 2009-10 season.
